Concerns about the impact of copper runoff from brake friction material on the marine life have led coastal states to introduce and pass legislation to restrict the level of copper used for brake pads.
The industry is working hard to comply with the aggressive targets set by California and Washington state. MEMA is working to discourage other states from passing similar legislation, since manufacturers will distribute brake pads that meet these targets nationally and conflicting regulations could make this more difficult.
